Belgian Fighter Jet Crashes in Northern France

A Belgian F-16 fighter jet crashed in Brittany, France, on the morning of Thursday, September 19.

The crash was believed to be caused by a technical problem with the engine. The plane narrowly missed a house as it crashed, local news reports said.

Both pilots of the jet successfully ejected and had only minor injuries, the Belgian Air Force said. One of them, however, was left dangling from a power line, images posted locally showed. The pilot was safely rescued from the power line by emergency services who were helped by electricity technicians.

The plane went down near Pluvigner. A local recording crew were nearby, scouting for a film, when they spotted the plane’s rapid descent. Credit: Corentin Julien/Jean-Marie Peron via Storyful
